INDUSTRY UPDATE (Worth the read!)
July 27, 2022

Are you an aesthetic practitioner? You need to know how future changes will affect you. Cosmetic Couture have received the below information direct from Qualifi Quality Assurance and Exams and felt it pertinent to share with the ACPB:

At present there are a few regulated qualifications available. However, there is no statuary enforceable education and training standard in place currently and it is advisable that those wishing to have a career within the aesthetics industry should only elect to undertake qualifications that are Ofqual or SQA regulated and include evidence of assessed progression between the different levels. At present we have no guarantee that ours or any other awarding organisation's qualifications will meet the new standards. However, once you gain a regulated qualification you will always have a regulated qualification. E.g., if you qualified to be a nurse, you would always be qualified to be a nurse, however you would need to update your skills annually to maintain your currency, to remain on the appropriate registers and gain the appropriate insurance.

As a regulated Awarding Organisation, we are obligated to ensure ongoing validity of our qualifications and to update them with reference to the changes being implemented across the industry. As standards evolve over time, any gaps in learning would need to be addressed by attending CPD courses. Please be aware that this is something that affects all qualifications across all sectors not just the aesthetics industry as each industry evolves.

Please be assured that we are involved in the working groups that are part of the development of the new standards.

The new licensing legislation is most likely to require all practitioners to hold regulated qualifications or to have achieved the national occupational standards via an apprenticeship. Where learners make the choice to start regulated qualifications now, to be ahead of the licensing system coming into play, they may well be at an advantage, but will potentially need to update their skills where or if additional content is added to the new standards. As a professional practitioner this is classed as good practice and would be necessary to maintain currency and give the safest and most effective treatment to their clients.
